Job Summary

As a Postdoctoral Researcher at DESY, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the capabilities of the FLASH free-electron laser facility, specifically focusing on the externally seeded FLASH1 branch. Your day-to-day responsibilities include developing machine learning tools for photon and electron beam diagnostics, conducting data analysis of beam properties, and benchmarking simulations against experimental results. You will actively support FLASH operations and disseminate your findings through journal publications and conference presentations. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in FEL physics, possesses a strong background in machine learning, and has hands-on experience with FEL pulse characterization or transverse deflecting cavity diagnostics. Required Skills

Education

PhD in FEL physics or a closely related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in FEL physics and photon diagnostics

  • Experience with experimental characterization of FEL pulses or transverse deflecting cavity diagnostics
  • Experience with numerical simulations (e.g., Elegent, Genesis)
  • Experience with large-scale accelerator facilities and supercomputing environments
