PhD Student in Biology | Biologe (m/w/d)
Heinrich-Heine Universität Düsseldorf
Job Summary
This PhD position at the Institute for Plant Cell Biology and Biotechnology at Heinrich-Heine University of Düsseldorf offers a unique opportunity to investigate extracellular glycan O-acetylation. The successful candidate will work on the CAS1 protein, exploring its role in glycan modification across fungi and plants. Day-to-day responsibilities include identifying catalytic residues through structure-guided mutagenesis, performing in vitro enzymatic characterization, and investigating yeast mutants to uncover new machinery components. Furthermore, the role involves translating these mechanistic insights into plant systems to explore biotechnological applications or stress responses. Candidates are expected to possess a strong background in molecular biology and genetics, along with excellent scientific writing and communication skills. This role is ideal for a motivated researcher looking to contribute to a groundbreaking study on ancient molecular mechanisms, while also fulfilling teaching responsibilities within the department.
