Job Summary

The successful candidate will serve as a key Research Scientist focusing on organic environmental chemistry, specifically investigating contaminants like PFAS, antibiotics, and microplastics within agricultural environments. This highly specialized role involves the acquisition, planning, and leadership of complex research projects. A core responsibility is the advanced development, optimization, and validation of analytical methods, primarily utilizing sophisticated instrumentation such as Isotope Mass Spectrometry (for 13C, 15N) and Liquid Chromatography coupled with various detectors for water content analysis. You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of these analytical instruments. Furthermore, the role involves instructing and advising junior researchers (PostDocs, PhD students, and interns) and laboratory staff. Success requires publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles and presenting research findings at national and international conferences, directly contributing to sustainable agricultural practices in Switzerland.

Required Skills

Education

PhD in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or a related technical field

Experience

  • Professional experience in acquiring external research funding
  • Experience in the management and leadership of scientific research projects
  • In-depth knowledge of organic environmental chemistry and trace analysis, especially related to agricultural contaminants (PFAS, antibiotics, microplastics)
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and validation of analytical instruments
