Job Summary

As the Head of Department for Immission Control at the State Office for the Environment in Schleswig-Holstein, you will hold overall responsibility for the strategic direction, operational efficiency, and administrative management of the department. Your day-to-day work involves overseeing foundational policy matters, managing departmental budgets, and driving organizational development. A key focus of this role is the modernization and digitalization of administrative procedures, particularly those related to the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). You will act as a bridge between internal departments and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous process improvement. This position is ideal for an experienced public sector leader who possesses a strong background in environmental protection, a talent for managing complex project groups, and the ability to navigate the intersection of government administration and economic interests. You will lead teams through strategic change, ensuring sound decision-making and constructive feedback mechanisms to support staff development.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's level or equivalent) in a relevant scientific, technical, agricultural, or legal discipline, or qualification for the second entry level of the second career group (higher civil service).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of administrative experience in the public sector within the field of environmental protection.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a management role specifically within the field of immission control.
  • Professional experience in establishing and controlling work and project groups.
  • Professional experience in the implementation of new IT systems within an administrative context.

Additional

  • Valid Class B driver's license. Qualification for the higher civil service (Laufbahngruppe 2, 2. Einstiegsamt) or equivalent academic degree. Must be eligible for public service employment in Germany.
