Job Summary

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is seeking a Software and IT Architect to join their 'Metrology for Digital Transformation' department in Berlin-Charlottenburg. In this role, you will contribute to the development of digital, machine-readable certificates and digital quality infrastructure. Your day-to-day responsibilities include conceptualizing and implementing prototypical software tools for digital calibration certificates (DCC), designing roles and processes for data spaces, and extending existing demonstrators to support W3C-standard verifiable credentials. You will work in an agile team environment, collaborating on research-driven projects that set global standards for measurement. The position requires a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics, combined with practical experience in full-stack development, distributed systems, and modern CI/CD workflows. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of scientific research and cutting-edge IT architecture, shaping the future of digital product passports and data-driven metrology.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree or equivalent (Diplom) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in full-stack software development
  • Professional experience with Java and modern JavaScript frameworks (specifically Angular)
  • Experience in the design and implementation of distributed systems and databases
  • Practical experience in setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines using Gitlab
  • Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
