Job Summary
This role is for a dedicated Biology Laboratory Technician to join the Structural Biochemistry group at a leading European university's Institute of Biochemistry in Cologne. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting cutting-edge research focused on understanding protein conformational changes through molecular cryo-electron microscopy. Day-to-day tasks include cloning, expressing, and purifying proteins, assisting with sample preparation and analysis using transmission electron microscopy, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The position also involves essential administrative and organizational duties such as ordering supplies and managing logistics. Candidates should possess a strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry, excellent organizational skills, and ideally, experience in a research lab environment. This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in electron microscopy within a dynamic and supportive academic setting.
Required Skills
Education
State-certified Technical Assistant (biological or medical) or Laboratory Technician with equivalent skills and experience; alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in a related field with relevant practical experience.
Experience
- Professional experience in a research laboratory or industry-related research environment (preferred)
- Practical experience with electron microscopy of biological samples (advantageous, not mandatory)
