Job Summary

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is seeking a dedicated Program Officer to join the 'Africa, Middle East' department. In this role, you will manage and execute key academic funding programs, including institutional partnerships and research chair initiatives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve strategic conceptual design, budget planning, and the evaluation of funding measures. You will act as a bridge-builder, facilitating international scientific networking and supporting the foundation's mission to foster excellence in research. This position requires a high degree of autonomy, strong leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex administrative tasks while maintaining a pragmatic, collaborative approach. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent) required; PhD is desirable. Foreign degrees require recognition by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).

Experience

  • Professional experience in foundation work, international science management, or public administration
  • Demonstrated research experience
  • Leadership experience, including delegation, decision-making, and assertiveness
  • Experience in managing funding programs is highly desirable
  • International study or research experience is highly desirable

Additional

  • Must be able to provide proof of recognition for foreign university degrees via the ZAB. Position is fixed-term until August 20, 2027, as a parental leave replacement. Candidates must participate in an assessment process including a home assignment and presentation.
