Job Summary

The Hansestadt Herford is seeking an Energy and Climate Transition Engineer to join the Technical Department. This role is a newly created staff position reporting directly to the Technical Deputy Mayor. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve coordinating energy and climate-related projects, establishing a comprehensive controlling system, and preparing reports for municipal committees. You will be responsible for prioritizing climate protection and adaptation activities based on existing municipal heat planning and climate protection concepts, as well as identifying and applying for relevant funding opportunities. The position requires a strong technical background, excellent communication skills for interdepartmental coordination, and the ability to work independently. This role is unique because it serves as a central hub for the city’s sustainability efforts, offering a stable and permanent civil service-adjacent position with flexible working models, mobile work options, and opportunities for professional development in a forward-thinking municipal environment.

Education

Completed university degree in a technical field (Engineering)

Experience

  • Professional experience in a comparable engineering or project management position is desirable.
  • Experience in the digitalization of project processes is considered a plus.
  • Proven ability to quickly familiarize oneself with new technical and administrative work areas.

  • Valid Class B driver's license required. Availability for occasional evening appointments is required. Proficiency level C1 in German is mandatory.
