Job Summary

This role involves working within a research project focused on the breeding and production of African Catfish using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the fish facility, ensuring animal welfare, monitoring water parameters, and managing production workflows. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to the independent phenotyping of large fish populations and juvenile rearing. You will be based at a partner site in Lüchow, working closely with industry partners to integrate research findings into commercial operations. The position requires a hands-on approach, technical aptitude for RAS technology, and a commitment to improving fish living conditions. This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial aquaculture production, with the potential for long-term integration into the partner company upon project completion.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, or applied chemical/biological sciences; OR Vocational training as a Technical Assistant, Biology Laboratory Technician, or Fish Farmer.

Experience

  • Professional experience in aquaculture or fish production required
  • Proven experience in fish breeding, reproduction, and husbandry
  • Experience in independent data collection and sampling according to protocols

Additional

  • Valid Class B driver's license is desirable; position is based in Lüchow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; fixed-term contract until August 31, 2028, with the intent for permanent transition to the partner company.
