Job Summary

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is seeking motivated professionals to join the 'Sovereign Biometrics' department. In this role, you will contribute to the modernization of German passport and ID systems and the advancement of European border control systems. Your day-to-day responsibilities include evaluating the security and performance of biometric systems, coordinating pilot projects with national and international stakeholders, managing technical requirements, and developing standards for data exchange formats and technical guidelines. You will act as a key advisor, ensuring that biometric processes are secure, efficient, and aligned with national and European regulations. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in IT, engineering, or mathematics who are eager to drive digitalization in government processes and contribute directly to Germany's cybersecurity. You will work in a collaborative environment, engaging with research institutions and industry partners to shape the future of sovereign identity and border security.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Computer Science, Technical Computer Science, IT Security, Physics, Mathematics, Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, IT Management, or Business Informatics.

Experience

  • Professional experience in biometrics preferred
  • Professional experience in requirement specification for technical systems and processes preferred

Additional

  • Must be willing to undergo security clearance procedures. Willingness to travel (approx. 15-20 days per year). Must be a resident or willing to work in Bonn, Germany. Valid work permit for Germany required.
