Job Summary

This role involves supporting the Cluster of Excellence ROOTS at Kiel University by developing and maintaining critical IT and data infrastructure. You will be responsible for programming and implementing visualization tools for remote sensing and excavation datasets, primarily within GIS environments. Day-to-day tasks include managing geodata infrastructures, web-mapping services, and statistical software packages. Additionally, you will oversee PC laboratories and server environments (Windows and Linux), manage virtual machine systems (VDI), and provide technical support for research equipment like magnetometers. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of software development, systems administration, and hands-on technical support in a multidisciplinary scientific environment. Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed university degree (BA or MA) in Computer Science, Media Technology, Cartography, or a specialized focus within a relevant field such as Prehistory, Early History, or Geosciences.

Experience

  • Professional experience in programming and implementation of data interpolation and visualization tools
  • Proven experience in managing geodata infrastructures and GIS applications
  • Experience in the administration of Linux and Windows-based server systems and PC laboratories
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining VM systems for VDI
