Job Summary

This interim professorship at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg involves leading the Biology/Ecology working group and delivering comprehensive education across Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Diploma programs. You will be responsible for teaching foundational organismic biology, functional ecology, plant ecophysiology, and ecosystem analysis. A significant portion of the role involves supervising student theses focused on plant-environment interactions and applied landscape ecology. This position is particularly aimed at early-career scientists who can demonstrate excellence in both research and teaching. It offers a unique opportunity to lead a department and gain high-level academic experience in a family-friendly university environment. While this is a fixed-term substitute position, the successful candidate is not excluded from applying for the permanent professorship which will be advertised separately in the near future.

Required Skills

Education

Relevant Doctorate (PhD) and Habilitation (or equivalent postdoctoral teaching and research achievements) as per § 59 of the Saxon Higher Education Act.

Experience

  • Professional experience in university-level teaching and research within biology or ecology
  • Experience in supervising Bachelor and Master level theses
  • Proven track record of scientific publications
  • Experience in leading academic working groups or research teams
  • Demonstrated pedagogical aptitude and knowledge of higher education didactics
