Job Summary

This full-time research position at the University of Augsburg's Faculty of Medicine focuses on microbiome, metabolome, and multi-omics analysis within the BIOMEX project. You will be responsible for the quality control and analysis of shotgun metagenome data, integrating biological markers with clinical and lifestyle data to identify disease-typical signatures. Day-to-day tasks include building reproducible analysis pipelines, performing multivariate statistical analyses, and utilizing machine learning methods to develop predictive models for neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. The role is highly interdisciplinary, involving close collaboration with medical and basic research partners and contribution to student teaching. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in the growing field of Environmental Health Sciences with the potential for habilitation, access to modern computing infrastructure, and involvement in high-impact international research publications.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree and a PhD (Doctorate) in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the analysis of metagenomic and human multi-omics data
  • Proven experience in statistics, multivariate procedures, clustering, and machine learning
  • Experience with predictive models, model validation, or explainable AI is preferred
  • Experience in creating documented, reproducible analysis pipelines
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and academic teaching
