Job Summary
This role is based at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Augsburg, specifically within the Chair of Model-based Environmental Exposure Science. As an IT Technician, you will play a vital role in researching the links between environment and health by supporting the development of computer models. Your daily responsibilities include building and maintaining data and computing infrastructure, developing geodatabases with online connections to external sources, and assisting scientific staff with programming and high-performance computing tasks. You will also provide helpdesk support for external users of the chair's modeling systems and contribute to the technical maintenance of portable measurement platforms. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of environmental science and technology in a research-driven academic environment. The role is a fixed-term one-year contract as a sick-leave replacement, offering a professional challenge for those skilled in scientific IT infrastructure and geodata management.
Required Skills
Education
Completed vocational training as an IT Specialist (Fachinformatiker) or a comparable qualification.
Experience
- Professional experience in IT infrastructure setup and maintenance
- Experience in programming with Python, Fortran, or similar languages
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as ArcGIS or QGIS is preferred
- Experience with sensor platforms like Arduino is an advantage
- Proven experience in software maintenance and scientific computing support
