Job Summary

This PhD position at the QUEST Institute for Experimental Quantum Metrology, a joint facility of Leibniz University Hannover and PTB, focuses on demonstrating laser cooling of the rotational state of a single molecular ion in a Paul trap. As a researcher, you will be responsible for commissioning a Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL), stabilizing it to a frequency comb, and modifying vacuum apparatus for mid-infrared spectroscopy. You will implement rotational laser cooling via optical pumping and verify results using quantum logic spectroscopy. The role involves close collaboration with the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel in Paris, providing a high-level international research environment. You will also extend Python-based experiment control systems (ARTIQ), analyze experimental data, and present your findings at international conferences.
