Job Summary

As a Data Center Operator for the Berlin Police, you will play a critical role in maintaining the city's security infrastructure. Working in a shift rotation, you will ensure the 24/7 stability of the police emergency response system (110) and manage multiple data center locations. Your daily responsibilities include monitoring central IT systems, managing storage networks (SAN), and serving as the primary technical contact for the service desk outside of standard business hours. You will perform 1st-level fault analysis, coordinate emergency measures, and handle physical hardware maintenance, including server components and facility systems like cooling and UPS. This position offers the unique opportunity to work with a modern tech stack including OpenShift and VMware within a public service environment that provides meaningful impact and long-term job security in the heart of Berlin.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree or Diploma (FH) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering (with a focus on data processing), or a comparable technical qualification through equivalent knowledge and experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in IT system administration or data center operations
  • Experience in monitoring and troubleshooting central IT infrastructures
  • Experience with server hardware and storage network management
  • Experience in 1st-level technical support and incident coordination

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Willingness to work shifts (24/7 rotation) is required. Non-native German speakers must provide a recognized C1 language certificate. Applicants must be prepared for a selection process conducted entirely in German.
