Job Summary

This full-time Postdoctoral position at the Institute of Molecular Pathogenesis (IMP) in Jena focuses on the scientific and administrative management of the 'Jena Animal Model Platform.' The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing in vivo infection models, primarily in agricultural livestock, within a newly built animal facility complex. Day-to-day duties include planning and conducting animal experiments up to BSL-3 safety levels, implementing telemetric monitoring methods, and providing practical support for animal stock management. This role is highly collaborative, requiring the acquisition of research projects with internal and external partners and the publication of findings. This position is particularly attractive for researchers seeking to work with high-level biosafety infrastructure (BSL-3) and diverse animal species in a well-funded public service environment (TVöD-Bund). The contract is fixed-term for 48 months, offering a stable long-term research opportunity in a multidisciplinary team.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree in Veterinary Medicine, Biology, or a comparable natural science discipline, and a successfully completed Doctorate (PhD).

Experience

  • Professional experience in establishing in vivo infection models, preferably in livestock or laboratory rodents
  • Experience in planning and conducting animal experiments under BSL-2 or BSL-3 conditions
  • Proven experience in scientific project coordination and the academic publication process
  • Professional experience in the administrative management of animal research facilities

Additional

  • Must undergo a security clearance according to the Security Check Act (SÜG). Requires physical and medical fitness for work in high-security biosafety areas. Expertise in laboratory animal science (Functions A and/or B according to EU Directive 2010/63/EU) is highly preferred.
