Job Summary

This role is based at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Berlin-Charlottenburg within the 'Heat and Vacuum' department. As a PhD candidate, you will contribute to a collaborative project with industrial partners focused on developing quantum-based optical pressure standards. Your day-to-day work involves primary gas temperature determination using IR absorption spectroscopy, developing high-resolution temperature measurement technology, and advancing Fabry-Perot refractometers. You will also be responsible for programming scripts for control and data acquisition, realizing portable systems, and conducting validation measurements. Candidates must hold a Master's or Diploma in Physics with excellent grades and possess strong experimental skills in laser radiation and vacuum systems. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma in Physics with 'very good' grades.

Experience

  • Professional experience in experimental work with visible and invisible laser radiation
  • Experience in laser spectroscopy, refractometry, or related fields
  • Experience handling vacuum apparatus and systems
  • Experience with thermostatting and precise temperature measurement techniques
  • Experience handling and testing electronic components including ESD safety measures
