Job Summary

As an IT Security Engineer for the Berlin Police, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of critical security infrastructure within the Information and Communication Technology directorate. Your daily duties involve operating and monitoring a diverse array of security components, including firewalls, application-level gateways, VPNs, IDS, and enterprise antivirus systems. You will handle everything from technical procurement and configuration to commissioning and continuous 24/7 monitoring. This role is ideal for technical professionals who enjoy complex troubleshooting and network security. The position offers high job security within the public sector, the ability to work on meaningful public safety projects, and a flexible working model that includes home office options after the initial onboarding phase. Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree or Diploma (FH) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical/scientific field with a focus on data processing.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the implementation of ICT security requirements and emergency concepts
  • Practical experience in managing firewall systems and DMZ environments
  • Experience in Unix system installation, configuration, and shell scripting
  • Experience with network analysis tools such as Wireshark or TCPDUMP
  • Professional experience in complex error analysis within TCP/IP networks

Additional

  • Must pass an extended security clearance (SÜ 2). Participation in a paid on-call rotation (including nights and weekends) is required. Must be willing to work on-site in Berlin with a maximum of two days per week remote work after training.
