Job Summary
This high-level leadership role within the German Federal Foreign Office involves shaping the nation's digital diplomatic presence from either Berlin or Bonn. As the Deputy Head of Division, you will lead a team of five professionals in developing secure, future-proof digital platforms and implementing cloud computing infrastructure within a government context. Your daily responsibilities include managing complex IT projects, steering external service providers, and ensuring compliance with strict security regulations such as the Classified Information Instruction (VSA). You will serve as a key decision-maker for fundamental questions regarding digital sovereignty and infrastructure, representing the division in technical and personnel matters. This position is unique for its international impact, offering the opportunity to support a global network of over 200 embassies and consulates while working at the intersection of high-level IT strategy and public service. The role demands a blend of technical expertise in cloud systems and strong empathetic leadership skills in a dynamic, agile environment.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Communications Engineering, Business Administration, MBA, or a comparable field of study.
Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience post-graduation
- Several years of experience in IT project management
- Proven experience working with sovereign IT systems or cloud infrastructures
- Professional experience in managing external service providers
- Experience with large-scale IT projects in public administration is preferred
- Experience in IT operations and architecture is preferred
Languages
Additional
- Must hold citizenship of Germany or another EU/EFTA member state. Requires willingness to undergo security clearance and perform occasional international travel. Position is available for full-time or part-time employment starting July 1, 2026.
