Job Summary

This role involves the independent planning, execution, and evaluation of molecular genetic analyses within the Core Unit Genomics at the Institute for Molecular Genomics. As a Technical Assistant, you will be responsible for DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, Real-time PCR, and Sanger sequencing, with a heavy focus on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation and data analysis. Beyond routine lab work, you will play a key role in establishing new methodologies, optimizing laboratory processes, and maintaining quality management standards according to DIN ISO 15189. This includes drafting SOPs, managing lab inventory, and ensuring data protection compliance. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional looking to work at the intersection of research and diagnostics in a modern university medical setting. Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Medical Technical Assistant (MTA), Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), or a comparable qualification such as Biology Laboratory Technician or Chemistry Laboratory Technician.

Experience

  • Several years of practical experience in Library Preparation and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
  • Professional experience in PCR, Real-time PCR, and DNA/RNA purification
  • Experience in handling cryo- and paraffin-embedded materials for molecular pathological analysis
  • Proven experience in laboratory administration, including ordering and third-party fund management
  • Experience in quality assurance and implementing standardized laboratory processes

Additional

  • Knowledge of data protection and genetic engineering regulations (Genverordnungsgesetze) is required. The position is initially fixed-term for 2 years starting June 1, 2026, with a possible extension.
