Job Summary

This part-time (50%) research position is based at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg within the 'Value Plant' joint project. As a Research Associate, you will focus on analyzing the biofunctionality of plant extracts, specifically olive leaf extracts and secondary plant metabolites, using the C. elegans model organism. Your day-to-day responsibilities include establishing and conducting experiments to assess antioxidative, pro-oxidative, and neuroprotective effects, as well as developing new methodologies for studying molecular mechanisms. This role is ideal for a scientist with strong laboratory skills in biochemistry and molecular biology who enjoys independent scientific work and data analysis. The position offers a collaborative academic environment and the opportunity to contribute to innovative research on plant-based resources and crop productivity until the end of 2027.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma in Nutritional Sciences, Food Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Toxicology, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Professional experience in molecular biological and biochemical laboratory techniques
  • Practical experience in handling the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans is required
  • Experience in the collection and statistical evaluation of scientific data
  • Previous research experience regarding the molecular mechanisms of secondary plant metabolites is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in independent scientific research and methodology development
