Job Summary
This is a high-impact leadership role within the Max Planck Society (MPG), Germany's most prestigious research organization. As the Head of the newly established Sustainability Office, you will spearhead the implementation of ambitious climate goals outlined in the MPG Climate Action Plan. Your day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating organization-wide sustainability and energy management systems, managing interfaces between research institutes and administrative departments, and ensuring compliance with energy efficiency legislation. You will be responsible for building and leading a team of experts, developing reporting structures for CO2 footprints, and representing the organization in internal and external committees. This position offers a unique opportunity to drive the ecological transformation of a world-leading research institution. Required Skills
Education
Successfully completed university degree (Master's or equivalent), preferably with a Doctorate (PhD), in a field relevant to the tasks (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, or Sustainability Management).
Experience
- Profound professional experience in sustainability and energy efficiency management
- Extensive experience in climate protection and energy efficiency legislation
- Proven track record in steering cross-departmental projects involving diverse experts
- Experience in project leadership and managing external service providers
- Leadership experience required to manage a highly qualified team of up to nine employees
- Experience with certifications and committee work
Languages
Additional
- High willingness to travel is required. Must have the ability to work under pressure and possess outstanding communication skills. Experience or willingness to work with AI applications is necessary.
