Job Summary
This role at the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (IKMB) involves supporting the Microbiome Platform in a high-tech clinical research environment. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for the professional handling and storage of biological samples such as stool, swabs, and biopsies according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will perform semi-automated and manual nucleic acid isolation, conduct complex gene analyses using PCR and qPCR, and prepare libraries for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). A key part of the role includes maintaining extraction and pipetting robots and documenting processes in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional looking to work with cutting-edge diagnostic methods at one of Germany's largest university hospitals. Required Skills
Education
Successfully completed and state-recognized vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MTLA/MTL), or a comparable qualification.
Experience
- Professional experience in molecular biology or microbiome laboratory settings is preferred
- Experience in handling biological samples including stool, swabs, and biopsies
- Proficiency in using standard Office software and complex LIMS applications
- Experience with automated laboratory equipment and pipetting robotics

- The position is initially limited to a 3-year fixed-term contract starting June 1, 2026. Full-time hours are 38.5 per week, though part-time models may be negotiable.
