Research Associate in Hydraulic Engineering | Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin / Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (m/w/d) FR Wasserbauingenieurwesen
BAV Dienstsitz Aurich
Job Summary
This is an exciting 3-year research position at the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) in Karlsruhe. As a Research Associate, you will join the 'Data and Methods' unit to lead an innovative internal R&D project focused on the automatic optimization of river engineering measures within numerical flow models. Your daily work will involve developing procedures to automate the integration of variants into multi-dimensional hydro- and morphodynamic models, utilizing multivariate target formulations and potentially machine learning algorithms. You will act as a consultant and technical expert for the department, bridging the gap between complex numerical modeling and practical river engineering. This role is particularly attractive for those looking to advance their scientific career, as it offers the explicit opportunity to pursue a doctorate (PhD), publish scientific papers, and participate in international conferences within a highly professional, interdisciplinary environment that supports a healthy work-life balance.
