Job Summary

This Postdoctoral position at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) focuses on a cross-institutional project to develop an AI-based tool for assessing pig welfare via vocalizations. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between behavioral biology and computer science, working closely with Fraunhofer IGD. Day-to-day responsibilities include running validation studies, generating annotated data, and testing the implementation of the AI tool on-farm. You will also be expected to participate in the KI-Tierwohl Young Researchers Group and collaborate within a large multi-disciplinary consortium. This role is ideal for a scientist with a background in life sciences who has an affinity for machine learning and bioacoustics. Required Skills

Education

Doctoral degree (PhD) in behavioral biology, life sciences, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience performing behavioral experiments, ideally with pigs or other farm animals
  • Proven publication record appropriate for the current career stage
  • Experience in statistical methods, specifically using R
  • Experience in bioacoustics is desirable
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary research environments or consortia

Additional

  • Must have the willingness to work with pigs under on-farm conditions. A German permit to perform animal experiments (equivalent to FELASA B or C) is desirable. Fixed-term contract until March 31, 2029.
