Job Summary

This role offers an exciting opportunity for three doctoral candidates to join the Research Unit FOR 5889 at Düsseldorf University Hospital, focusing on the dynamic regulation of chronic liver disease. Working within the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Infectious Diseases, successful candidates will engage in high-impact research projects exploring apoptotic effector caspases or stress response kinases in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. Day-to-day activities include conducting experimental research in cell biology and immunology, working with in vivo mouse models, and performing critical analysis of scientific literature. The positions are part of a structured graduate training program that bridges the gap between basic life sciences and clinical research. This is an attractive opportunity for motivated scientists to earn a Dr. rer. nat. degree while working in a competitive international environment with a salary based on the TV-L E13 public service scale.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree, Diploma, or equivalent university degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Human Biology, Molecular Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, or a related life sciences discipline.

Experience

  • Professional experience in cell biology or immunology research
  • Experience with molecular and cell biological methods
  • Experience in working with in vivo or mouse models is required
  • Proven ability to independently manage and develop research projects
  • Experience in critical analysis of scientific literature and contributing original scientific ideas

Additional

  • Candidates must be willing to work with in vivo/mouse models. The position is a 65% part-time role limited to four years under the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).
