Job Summary

The Central Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics at University Hospital Düsseldorf is seeking a dedicated Research Associate to lead a cardiovascular research group. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing your own research team, managing a biosafety level 2 (S2) genetic engineering facility, and overseeing master's level modules in Biology and Biochemistry. You will play a pivotal role in mentoring students and advancing research networks. This position is unique as it offers a permanent contract within a prestigious university setting, specifically designed for a professional aiming for a Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification). Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry and a PhD (Doctorate) in natural sciences. Membership in the DFG GeroPlan Junior Academy is required.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in primary cell culture of the cardiovascular system, documented by publications
  • Professional experience in leading and developing a research team
  • Experience in supervising students and managing academic modules
  • Proven experience in planning, executing, and statistically evaluating complex experiments
  • Experience with university administrative structures and processes is desirable

  • Required: Permission to manage a genetic engineering facility according to GenTG; Recognized expertise in laboratory animal science (e.g., FELASA Category B) including knowledge of German animal welfare law; Goal of achieving a Habilitation is expected; Membership in DFG-Nachwuchsakademie GeroPlan is a prerequisite.
