Job Summary
This role involves conducting advanced research within the Fichtel-team at the German Primate Center, focusing on the evolutionary links between cognition, behavioral strategies, and fitness in wild lemurs. Based at the Kirindy Forest field site in Madagascar, the successful candidate will perform observational and experimental studies to determine how cognitive performance influences survival and reproductive success. Key responsibilities include tracking animal movements, analyzing spatial data, and managing research projects independently. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment, collaborating with experts in psychology, neurobiology, and behavioral biology. The role is initially for two years with a potential three-year extension, providing significant room for intellectual independence and the chance to supervise graduate students in a world-class research network.
Required Skills
Education
PhD in Behavioral Biology, Cognitive Sciences, or a related field
Experience
- Professional experience in conducting observational and experimental studies with wild animals
- Experience in tracking animal movements and analyzing spatial data
- Proven track-record of independent project management and leadership
- Experience in establishing genetic pedigrees is preferred

- Basic French skills are an advantage. Must be willing to work at field sites in Madagascar. Position is subject to final funding approval for a July 2026 start.
