Job Summary

As a Research Associate at Fraunhofer FHR, you will join the Embedded Systems department to develop high-performance, real-time signal processing solutions for advanced radar systems. Your daily work involves designing system solutions on heterogeneous platforms, including FPGAs, SoCs, and GPUs, specifically for imaging radar sensors used in automotive, industrial, and aerospace sectors. You will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of experts to create resource-efficient distributed systems and contribute to the entire project lifecycle, from acquisition to international publication of results. This role is unique for its blend of academic excellence and industrial application, offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge sensor technology for autonomous vehicles and disaster relief. The position is based in Wachtberg near Bonn and offers a highly flexible, family-friendly environment within one of Europe's leading research organizations.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Physics, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Professional experience in FPGA development using VHDL
  • Professional experience in C/C++ programming for embedded platforms
  • Practical experience in developing and implementing digital signal processing algorithms in hardware
  • Basic experience in GPU programming, ideally for real-time data processing
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows and container-based solutions like Docker
  • Experience in scientific publishing and presenting at international conferences
