Job Summary

This role is based within the Length Unit and Quantum Optics department at PTB, Germany's national metrology institute. You will be at the forefront of quantum optics, working with optical frequency combs to connect microwave and optical frequencies for atomic clocks. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting and evaluating frequency measurements, automating data analysis processes, and investigating fundamental noise processes in frequency combs. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and the QUEST Institute to ensure the reliable operation of laser infrastructure, contributing to high-level research on dark matter and natural constants. This position is ideal for researchers who enjoy precision measurements and the development of high-stability laser systems. The role offers a 3-year initial contract with a potential extension to 6 years, providing a stable yet cutting-edge environment for professional growth in a world-leading research facility.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or Diploma) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in photonics, control engineering, electronics, or high-frequency technology
  • Experience in the execution and evaluation of frequency measurements
  • Experience in programming, specifically with Python
  • Experience in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and external partners
  • Experience in third-party funding acquisition and project management is preferred
