Job Summary

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is seeking a strategic leader to head Department B2, 'Groundwater and Soil.' In this high-level executive role, you will manage a scientifically qualified organization of approximately 120 employees. Your daily responsibilities include steering the department's strategic direction, managing resources, and representing groundwater and soil topics at national and international levels. You will act as a critical interface between science, politics, and administration, providing essential geoscientific advice to the German Federal Government. This position offers significant creative freedom and the opportunity to shape sustainable resource strategies. The role is ideal for a seasoned leader with a strong background in hydrogeology and experience navigating complex political-administrative environments. It is a prestigious appointment equivalent to the B3 salary grade, offering a unique platform to influence federal policy and international scientific cooperation.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in a relevant scientific field; Doctorate (PhD) is highly desirable as proof of expertise.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of leadership experience with personnel responsibility
  • Extensive professional experience in the field of groundwater and hydrogeology
  • Proven success in managing complex organizational units or large-scale programs
  • Experience working within a political-administrative environment or similar structures
  • Demonstrated expertise through professional references, doctoral degree, or peer-reviewed publications
