Job Summary

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is seeking a Research Associate for the 'H2 at Interfaces' project. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team focusing on geochemistry, microbiology, and mineralogy to investigate hydrogen formation and degradation within repository environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and conducting laboratory experiments to quantify reactions at interfaces between steel, filling materials, and rock, particularly in the presence of microorganisms. A key technical aspect involves developing reaction cells for high-resolution optical microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. This position is specifically designed for scientific qualification, offering the opportunity to contribute to peer-reviewed publications and present findings at international conferences. It is an attractive role for a researcher looking to work at a federal competence center that bridges the gap between fundamental geoscientific research and governmental policy advice.
