Job Summary

As a Science Manager at the DESY Project Management Agency, you will operate at the critical intersection of politics and high-level research. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve monitoring international research within the ErUM framework (Exploration of Universe and Matter), developing new impulses for research policy, and evaluating strategic documents. You will be responsible for managing funded research projects, ensuring transparent oversight, and communicating scientific findings to the public. This role is unique because it allows you to actively shape the German research landscape by translating strategic management into sustainable scientific outcomes. You will represent German interests in international research forums and contribute to the strategic development of funding programs. Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree in Physics or Chemistry (or equivalent expertise); a PhD is highly desired.

Experience

  • Professional experience in natural science basic research at large-scale facilities (e.g., CERN, ESRF, FAIR, IceCube, ILL, VLT)
  • Proven experience in science management and working at the interface of politics, science, and society
  • Extensive experience with national research funding landscapes and federal political strategies
  • Experience in evaluating and creating strategic concepts and research policy documents
