Job Summary

The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is seeking two highly motivated PhD Students to join the Mural and Endothelial Cell Biology Group (Orlich Lab). In this research-focused role, you will investigate the molecular mechanisms governing cardiovascular development and disease, with a specific focus on the Serum Response Factor (SRF) signaling pathway within the lymphatic vascular system. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and conducting cell biological and animal studies, performing high-resolution live-in-vivo imaging (intravital single and multi-photon microscopy), and utilizing advanced techniques such as single-cell RNAseq, FACS analysis, and confocal microscopy. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at a leading European university clinic, combining modern in vitro methods with in vivo mouse models. The role is part-time (65%) for a duration of three years, providing a structured environment for scientific development and the chance to present findings at international conferences.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a comparable natural science field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in a laboratory environment
  • Experience in cardiovascular or lymphatic biology is preferred
  • Experience with mouse models is an advantage
  • Experience using scientific software such as GraphPad Prism or ImageJ
  • Experience in tissue preparation and protein isolation

Additional

  • Proof of full immunization against the measles virus is required before starting employment. The position is limited to 3 years under the WissZeitVG and involves a 65% part-time work schedule.
