Job Summary

The Department of Biology at Philipps-Universität Marburg is seeking a PhD Candidate to join Professor Dr. Annette Borchers' research group. This part-time (50%) position is focused on a three-year research project investigating the FBRSL1 gene and its role in embryonic development using the Xenopus laevis model system. The successful candidate will perform functional analyses of cell differentiation, characterize subcellular dynamics in neuronal cells, and contribute to scientific teaching. This role offers a unique opportunity to conduct high-level research within an internationally recognized interdisciplinary team. You will benefit from the structured support of the Marburg Research Academy (MARA) and receive a state-wide public transport ticket (Landesticket Hessen). The position is ideal for a dedicated researcher looking to complete their doctorate while gaining experience in advanced micromanipulation and molecular biology techniques within a collaborative academic environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's, Diploma, or equivalent) in Molecular Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in planning, executing, and evaluating research projects using Xenopus embryos
  • Proven practical experience in microinjection and embryonic micromanipulation techniques
  • Experience with standard molecular biology laboratory methods including qPCR and cloning
  • Experience in supervising and instructing students in cell and developmental biology courses is preferred
  • Experience in documentation and quantitative evaluation of embryonic phenotypes
