Job Summary

As a Lead Research Engineer at SAP's Business AI Research division, you will spearhead the development of next-generation AI methods specifically designed for structured business data such as graphs, tables, and time series. Your daily responsibilities include contributing to pioneering technical advances in foundation models, defining scalable training and experimentation environments, and leading the creation of novel benchmark datasets. You will collaborate closely with academic partners and applied research teams to publish findings at scientific conferences and contribute to the open-source community. This role is unique as it bridges the gap between high-level scientific research and real-world business applications, moving beyond classical tree-based methods into the GenAI era. You will be responsible for critical design decisions regarding technology selection and implementation while driving the strategy for open-source model contributions. Required Skills

Education

PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant disciplines.

Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience with a deep background in Machine Learning on Structured Data and business applications
  • Demonstrated experience in ownership of scalable machine learning and data environments
  • Proven track record in executing scientific experiments on internal and public datasets
  • Experience in leading the creation of training and benchmark datasets
  • Experience with open-source model and software contributions based on research deliverables

  • Expected travel: 0 - 10%. Experience with SAP Applications and underlying data models is preferred. Must be able to work in a hybrid model (LI-Hybrid).
