Job Summary
This W2-level professorship at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences (HSO) offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of humanoid robotics within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering. As a Carl Zeiss Foundation Professor, you will be responsible for developing and delivering innovative curriculum in both German and English for Bachelor's and Master's programs in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Applied AI. The role involves leading independent research, managing laboratory infrastructure, and collaborating closely with regional industry partners. A key highlight of this position is the reduced teaching load of 11 semester hours (SWS) for the first five years, providing significant freedom to establish a robust research focus. You will play a strategic role in university self-governance while fostering an inclusive, diverse learning environment for approximately 4,000 students. This permanent position is ideal for experts looking to bridge the gap between high-level mechatronic systems and advanced AI applications.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Natural Sciences; Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent scientific achievement (per §§ 49, 50 LHG).
Experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience following a university degree in engineering, computer science, or natural sciences
- At least 3 years of professional experience outside of the university/academic sector
- Extensive practical experience in Artificial Intelligence specifically within the context of humanoid robotics
- Proven experience in scientific work demonstrated through a high-quality doctorate or equivalent achievement
- Experience in pedagogical and didactic methods, including gender- and diversity-sensitive teaching approaches

- The position is subject to the Higher Education Act of Baden-Württemberg (LHG). Initial appointment is typically as a probationary civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis auf Probe), though a fixed-term employment contract is possible.
