Job Summary
The Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (MPI-BGC) in Jena is seeking a Chemical Technical Assistant to join the Central Analytical Laboratory of the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS). In this role, you will be part of a 13-member team focused on monitoring long-term greenhouse gas trends across Europe. Your primary day-to-day responsibilities include performing gas chromatographic analyses of air samples, managing the internal logistics of sample containers (flasks), and maintaining laboratory databases. You will also be responsible for the inspection, cleaning, and repair of specialized equipment, as well as communicating with international scientists regarding sample metadata and shipping. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-precision climate research within a world-renowned research infrastructure. Required Skills
Education
State-certified Technical Assistant specializing in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Laboratory Technology, or a comparable vocational qualification.
Experience
- Professional experience in general analytical chemistry or environmental chemistry
- Experience with gas samples and gas chromatography is highly desirable
- Experience in handling hazardous substances and pressurized gas cylinders is preferred
- Proven experience in laboratory documentation and database management
- Experience in communicating with scientific stakeholders in a professional environment
