Job Summary

This role within the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) involves supporting operative investigation units by expanding services in the field of network operations (CNE) and information technology surveillance. You will be responsible for the preparation and execution of research and development projects, specifically focusing on the reconnaissance and disruption of criminal infrastructure. Day-to-day tasks include developing methods for locating and taking down control servers, evaluating security-relevant software, and designing specialized data analysis tools. The position is unique for its blend of academic research and high-stakes law enforcement operations, requiring a proactive approach to offensive and defensive IT security. It offers a meaningful career in national security with the opportunity to advise senior leadership and train experts. Candidates must be willing to participate in occasional domestic and international travel, on-call shifts, and operative missions to support complex criminal investigations.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's, Magister, or University Diploma) in Computer Science, Communications Engineering, Information Technology, Physics, Mathematics, or a comparable STEM degree with an IT focus.

Experience

  • Comprehensive practical experience in IT security, specifically in offensive (penetration testing) and defensive system hardening
  • Extensive professional knowledge of internet technologies and protocols
  • Experience in conducting research and development projects including technical evaluation and testing
  • Professional experience in designing and implementing specialized IT methods and hardware tools
  • Experience in providing technical consultancy to leadership or training specialized personnel

Additional

  • Must be willing to undergo an extended security clearance (SÜG § 9). Willingness to travel (3-5 times per year, 1-5 days duration). Participation in operative missions (5-10 times per year). Flexibility for on-call duties and overtime outside regular hours is required.
