This part-time position (24.92 hours per week) is based at the Geological Survey of North Rhine-Westphalia in Krefeld within the Paleontology, Mineralogy, and Petrography department. The successful candidate will primarily focus on the microscopic identification and counting of fossil pollen and spores to support palynological age dating. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing geological samples from intake to documentation, maintaining palynological and paleobotanical archives, and performing routine organizational tasks such as market research. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong fine motor skills and a high capacity for concentration. Education
Completed vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Biology Laboratory Technician, or a comparable qualification.
Experience
- Professional experience as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) or Biology Laboratory Technician
- Experience in microscopic analysis and identification of biological or geological samples
- Practical experience in sample organization and documentation
- Previous experience in palynology or paleobotany is preferred but not mandatory
- Proven ability to perform concentrated, precise work over long periods
