Job Summary

This role involves supporting the Bavarian State Office for the Environment in the ecological monitoring and assessment of approximately 50 lakes in Bavaria. As a Technical Assistant, you will be responsible for processing and evaluating long-term limnological data from the internal LIMNO database to identify relationships between abiotic factors and biology. Your day-to-day tasks include performing routine data evaluations, quality assurance, and coordinating with water management authorities. You will also assist in creating publications, managing statistical evaluations, and overseeing service contracts for biological plankton sample analysis. A unique aspect of this position is the opportunity to work with microscopic imaging and photo documentation of aquatic organisms. The role is based in Hof and offers a modern workspace within a collaborative team dedicated to environmental protection. It is a fixed-term position until December 31, 2028, featuring flexible working hours and the possibility of up to 50% remote work after an initial onboarding period.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological-Technical Assistant (BTA), Chemical-Technical Assistant (CTA), Medical-Technical Laboratory Assistant (MTLA), or a comparable technical field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in aquatic ecology, specifically lake ecology or environmental public relations, is preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating large datasets using statistics and graphics.
  • Experience with image processing and documentation of biological samples.
  • Previous experience with procurement or awarding service contracts is desirable.
  • Proven ability in organizational management and independent decision-making.

  • Valid Class B driver's license and willingness to undertake business travel are required. Must be able to work at the Hof location with a fixed-term contract until 2028.
