Job Summary

This role involves the development and enhancement of the open-source library management system 'FOLIO' at Leipzig University Library. Working within a collaborative project alongside the SLUB Dresden and an international community, you will be responsible for the full software development lifecycle. Your daily tasks will include analyzing innovative technologies, designing backend and frontend functionalities, and developing software modules and interfaces. You will also participate in international working groups, create automated tests, and maintain technical documentation. This position is ideal for developers who enjoy working with modern microservice architectures and web technologies in a research-oriented, international environment. The role offers a high degree of autonomy, flexible working hours, and the opportunity to contribute to a sustainable, open-source solution that impacts the academic infrastructure of major German universities. The position is fixed-term until June 2028 and offers a competitive salary under the TV-L E13 public service pay scale.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field with equivalent professional qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in software development with Java
  • Experience in frontend development, specifically using React
  • Experience with microservice architectures and API design
  • Experience with web build tools such as npm, Webpack, or Babel
  • Experience in an international development context or research community is preferred
