Job Summary

As a Pharmaceutical Engineer within the GMP Biopharmaceuticals working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI, you will play a pivotal role in advancing medical progress through the development of modern biotechnological drugs. Your daily activities will focus on Downstream Processing (DSP), where you will plan and implement sophisticated projects from internal coordination and material planning to external partner communication. You will design and oversee the introduction of new DSP processes, provide technical guidance to staff, and ensure all activities meet rigorous Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. This role is uniquely attractive as it combines applied research with industrial application, offering the chance to work on preclinical and clinical samples within a world-leading research organization. You will collaborate closely with upstream and filling engineers to ensure seamless production workflows, contributing directly to innovative cell and gene therapies in a state-of-the-art facility in Leipzig.

Required Skills

Education

University degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering (e.g., Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or a comparable field of study).

Experience

  • Professional experience in Downstream Processing of biopharmaceutical products
  • Practical experience working in cleanroom environments up to Class A
  • Proven experience in process development for chromatography and various filtration techniques
  • Experience in technical documentation and quality assurance according to GMP standards
  • Experience in the technical guidance or supervision of technical staff
