Job Summary

This role offers an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious scientist to pursue a PhD within the International PhD Programme (IPP) in Mainz. Joining the research group of René Ketting, the successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research on 'Molecular Mechanisms in Genome Stability & Gene Regulation.' Specifically, the project focuses on the interactions between small RNAs and cellular condensates using C. elegans as a model organism. You will investigate how piRNA pathways control transposable elements, exploring the functional relevance of germ granules and the regulation of catalytic RNA machinery. The position is highly collaborative, allowing you to work with a community of international scientists on fundamental questions of molecular biology, including how organisms age and how DNA is repaired. This role is unique for its focus on high-level fundamental research, offering the chance to define a specific project that matches your expertise while utilizing advanced genetic manipulation techniques.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Biology, Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field qualifying for PhD entry.

Experience

  • Professional experience in life sciences research
  • Experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques
  • Demonstrated interest or background in genome stability or gene regulation
  • Experience with model organisms, specifically C. elegans, is beneficial
