Job Summary
This role is based at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, where you will serve as a Software Developer focused on research data management. Your primary responsibility is to design, implement, and adapt IT solutions for handling geoscientific data and metadata according to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable). You will maintain and further develop the GFZ Data Services repository, manage the International Generic Sample Number (IGSN) system, and enhance metadata machine-readability using Semantic Web technologies. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of high-level research and advanced software engineering, integrating local solutions into major European initiatives like NFDI4Earth and EOSC. Required Skills
Education
University degree (Bachelor) in Information and Data Management, Computer Science, or a comparable field of study.
Experience
- Practical experience in the field of research data management
- Professional experience in software deployment and virtualization on Unix-like systems
- Demonstrated experience with relational database management systems
- Experience in agile software development using Java or JavaScript
- Experience with REST APIs and data formats like JSON and XML
