Job Summary
As a Technical Officer for Water Protection in the Climate and Environment Department for the City of Aachen, you will play a vital role in safeguarding surface water, groundwater, and the city's historic thermal springs. Your day-to-day responsibilities include conducting on-site inspections of wastewater treatment plants and facilities handling water-polluting substances to ensure compliance with legal and statutory regulations. You will provide technical expertise during the review of building applications, draft official statements, and advise administrative staff on technical matters. A key part of the role involves negotiating with plant operators to resolve deficiencies and enforcing non-negotiable legal requirements. Required Skills
Education
State-certified Technician (Staatlich geprüfte/r Techniker/in) or Master Craftsman (Meister/in) in Environmental Technology, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Technology, HVAC, or a related technical field.
Experience
- Professional experience as a state-certified technician or master craftsman in environmental, chemical, mechanical, or sanitary engineering
- Experience in monitoring technical facilities and conducting on-site inspections
- Experience in developing constructive solutions and compromises in conflict situations
- Several years of relevant professional experience in water protection or environmental law is desirable
- Experience with standard hardware and software applications

- Valid Class B driver's license required. Must be willing to conduct field assignments, including occasional work outside standard flex-time hours or on weekends. Subject to security and background checks as per public service standards.
