Job Summary

The Head of the Data Center will lead the planning, design, and implementation of a newly established central unit at the Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology. This leadership role involves managing a team of five staff members to support researchers in collecting, integrating, and analyzing diverse datasets across disciplines like geography, archaeology, and climatology. Day-to-day responsibilities include conceptualizing management workflows, maintaining databases, and collaborating with Department Directors to ensure data availability and security. The position is unique for its transdisciplinary focus on the Anthropocene, requiring a blend of high-level scientific research and technical infrastructure management. Candidates will represent the institute at international forums and foster partnerships for data-sharing. PhD in Computer Science or a related field

Experience

  • Professional experience in managing multidisciplinary teams in an international and intercultural environment

  • Proven expertise in handling large datasets, particularly in geospatial and diachronic applications
  • Experience in planning, designing, and deploying scalable infrastructure and databases
  • Background in scientific research with a track record of high-quality publications
