Job Summary

This leadership role involves overseeing the residual operations of a research reactor facility during its decommissioning and dismantling phase in Geesthacht. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating operational regulations, official requirements, and technical standards while managing a specialized team. Day-to-day activities include evaluating operational incidents, planning maintenance for residual systems, and ensuring the technical documentation accurately reflects the progress of the dismantling process. A key part of the role involves representing the department before authorities and experts, as well as managing emergency on-call rotations. This position is particularly attractive due to its long-term stability (permanent contract), the opportunity to lead a critical environmental project, and a comprehensive benefits package under the German public service collective agreement (TVöD), including 30 days of vacation and flexible working arrangements in a highly international research environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master of Science or Diploma in Engineering) in Nuclear Technology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Chemistry, Nuclear Physics, or a comparable scientific/engineering field.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in the operation or decommissioning of nuclear facilities
  • Proven experience in applying for and processing nuclear licensing and modification procedures
  • Initial leadership experience in a technical or scientific environment
  • Experience in group moderation and stakeholder management
  • Experience with standard office software and analytical reporting

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Must be willing to participate in on-call rotations. Possession of a valid nuclear reliability check (Atomrechtliche Zuverlässigkeitsüberprüfung) is highly preferred. Full-time availability (39 hours/week) is required.
