Job Summary
This role at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (IPMS) focuses on the strategic and scientific development of the 'Embodied Artificial Intelligence' field. As part of the Fraunhofer 'Attract' funding program, you will be responsible for creating a scientifically sound vision and roadmap, integrating it into the institute's portfolio, and identifying market potentials for innovative applications. Day-to-day, you will bridge the gap between high-level research and industrial application by building networks with research groups and industry partners. The position is unique because it offers a clear path toward leadership, with the long-term goal of building and leading your own research group. You will work in an interdisciplinary environment with access to excellent technical infrastructure, focusing on cutting-edge topics like AI-hardware co-design and autonomous systems. This is a fixed-term 3-year contract with a strong intention for long-term employment and career growth within one of the world's leading research organizations.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Science, or Cognitive Science. A PhD is preferred; alternatively, a Master's degree with significant relevant professional experience.
Experience
- Professional experience in AI-based systems, specifically in autonomous or hardware-integrated AI
- Experience in strategic development of scientific topics and applied research
- Proven track record in scientific excellence, ideally through a PhD or extensive research history
- Experience in networking and initiating collaborations between research and industry
- Leadership experience is desirable but not mandatory for initial group development

- The position is based on the TVöD public service collective agreement. Initial contract is limited to 3 years. Requires the ability to work 39 hours per week in Dresden.
